Are push-ups considered aerobic exercise?

We all know that aerobic exercise can exercise every part of our body. Doing more aerobic exercise can maintain body coordination, reduce obesity and have many other benefits. So some people start doing high-intensity exercises such as push-ups in order to lose weight. But in the end, I built up some muscles, but I didn’t lose weight. What is going on? Here, I will explain to you the difference between aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise.

Aerobic exercise or anaerobic exercise is not simply divided according to the sport, but is distinguished by whether the energy for muscle contraction during exercise comes from aerobic metabolism or anaerobic metabolism.

Aerobic exercise, also called aerobic metabolic exercise, refers to physical exercise performed by the human body with adequate oxygen supply. The benefits of aerobic exercise are: it can increase oxygen intake and better consume excess calories in the body. Therefore, it is characterized by low intensity, rhythm and long duration.

Each exercise should last no less than 1 hour and should be done 3 to 5 times a week. Through this kind of exercise, oxygen can fully break down sugar in the body, consume body fat, enhance and improve cardiopulmonary function, prevent osteoporosis, and regulate psychological and mental state. It is the main form of exercise for fitness. Common aerobic exercises include: walking, jogging, skating, swimming, cycling, Tai Chi, fitness dancing, rhythmic gymnastics, etc.

This type of exercise will produce too much lactic acid in the body, leading to unsustainable muscle fatigue, muscle soreness and shortness of breath after exercise. If you want to make your body stronger, you can go to the gym to do anaerobic exercises. However, when exercising, it is best to follow the guidance of your coach and choose a training plan that suits you.

After reading this, I believe you will never do the wrong exercises to lose weight again. Generally speaking, push-ups are not considered an aerobic exercise. In contrast, high-intensity exercises are not considered aerobic exercises. Push-ups can achieve the effect of weight loss to a certain extent, but only to a certain extent. Doing too many push-ups will only give you explosive muscles in your arms, but it will not make your body more symmetrical. So don't be misled in the future.
