What are the badminton footwork?

In international competitions, my country's big balls such as basketball and football are not good, but small balls such as table tennis and badminton do have a certain status. In table tennis competitions, except for doubles, the championship, runner-up and third place are basically all taken, so much so that the Olympics have to cancel this event. Badminton is also possible. Can Lin Dan still make a living as he is old? The answer is: Yes. Let’s also learn the basic knowledge of badminton – badminton footwork.

1. There are five structures of badminton footwork: starting, moving, hitting the ball in place and returning. Depending on the player's center position on the court and the distance of the incoming ball, the player can use one step to hit the ball or two or three steps to move to the position to hit the ball. For right-handed players, the final step in getting into position to hit the ball is usually with the right foot in front, and the left foot is always closer to the center, as explained below.

2. Badminton footwork classification According to the direction of movement on the court and the position of the court, badminton footwork is usually divided into: net footwork, backward footwork and side-to-side movement footwork.

3. The footwork for going to the net is the footwork used to complete the process of rubbing, pushing, hooking, blocking and picking the ball. It includes striding to the net, padding and kicking to the net, forward cross and kicking stride to the net, backward cross and kicking stride to the net, and jumping step to the net.

No matter which footwork you use to hit the ball, your stance and preparation posture before hitting the ball are basically the same. That is, stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart, with the right foot usually in front and slightly behind the left foot, the knees slightly bent, the front of the feet on the ground, and the heels slightly lifted. Lean your upper body slightly forward, hold the racket in front of your body, concentrate and watch the ball coming from the opponent.

⑴ Stepping to the net

① Two-step stride to the net: first take a step with the left foot towards the direction of the ball, then take a big step forward with the right foot to hit the ball

② Three-step stride to the net: first take a small step with the right foot towards the direction of the ball, then take a second step forward with the left foot, and finally, take a big step with the right foot to get into position to hit the ball.

⑵ Stepping and kicking to get to the net

First take a step with your right foot towards the direction of the ball, then take a small step with your foot, and at the same time lift your right foot, using the power of your left foot to take a big step forward and hit the ball.

⑶ Cross-step forward and step over to the net

First take a small side step forward with your right foot, then lift your right foot and use the power of your left foot to take a big step forward and hit the ball.

⑷ Backward cross step plus kick and stride to the net

First take a small side step forward with your right foot, then take a second side step with your left foot behind your right foot. Finally, lift your right foot and use the power of your left foot to take a big step forward to hit the ball.

⑸ Jumping step to get to the net

Stand slightly forward, and when you judge that the opponent is going to hit the ball in front of the net again, use your feet to push off the ground, quickly jump to the front of the net, and use the diving technique to hit the ball, so as to try to counterattack immediately when the ball just crosses the net.

When the opponent intends to return the ball in front of the net, he should stand slightly forward, take a small step forward with his right foot, and as soon as his foot touches the ground, he should jump hard and rush sideways towards the net. When using the kick-and-jump footwork to get to the net, you must be fast and pay attention to braking and cushioning after landing to prevent violations such as touching the net or invading the opponent's court due to excessive forward movement.

⑹ Backhand footwork

In badminton technique, whether it is forehand or backhand, the body posture should be kept with the right foot in front and the left foot behind when the last step is in place to hit the ball. Therefore, the footwork movement method for backhand volleyball is the same as that for forehand volleyball. The difference is: when starting, the right hip should quickly turn to the left front so that the right side of the body is diagonally facing the hitting point in front of the backhand net (this rotation can also be completed during the movement) to facilitate movement to the left front.

When moving to the net and braking, in order to maintain body balance and facilitate hitting the ball and returning, you should pay attention to using the strength of your back muscles at the same time to overcome the inertia of the upper body moving forward and prevent the body from leaning forward excessively.

⑺ Things to note when surfing the net

① When going to the net, be careful not to use too much forward momentum to avoid losing balance.

② When hitting the ball, the toe of the front foot should be facing the sideline, not inward, so as to help you slide forward with the forward momentum.

③ After hitting the ball, you should retreat to the center position as quickly as possible by taking a backward step, pad step, or cross step.

The above is an introduction to the footwork of badminton. Those who are interested can learn it. Badminton is a relatively safe and appropriate sport. Unlike football, where injuries are common and even deaths occur, I have never heard of anyone being killed in badminton. Moreover, this sport does not require a high venue. You can start a game in a relatively open space and it can be cultivated into a hobby.
