Can swimming really train your abdominal muscles?

Besides making you look better, swimming also affects the microscopic level of how your muscles function, a level made up of complex muscle fibers of different types.

When swimming, the body will mobilize a large number of "slow-twitch" fibers that are responsible for endurance and "fast-twitch" fibers that are responsible for speed and strength. You will find that persisting in swimming will gradually bring you closer to an ideal athletic physique.
