Will muscles turn into fat if athletes don't exercise?

In life, we often see former athletes gaining weight after retirement. Some athletes also say that they feel they have lost muscle after not exercising for a while. Many people think that this is because the muscles have turned into fat? Why is it that some fat people can easily build muscles? Is it because the fat is converted into muscles? This has led to many misunderstandings among people. Muscle and fat are two different tissues and cannot be converted into each other.

The changes in the bodies of some athletes after retirement are not because their muscles have turned into fat, but because most retired athletes no longer do high-intensity training every day after retirement, and their developed muscles gradually atrophy due to long-term lack of high-intensity exercise. During this period, if they do not make appropriate adjustments to their diet, and their metabolism slows down as they age, they will gain weight. Muscles and fat cannot be converted into each other. Muscles will not turn into fat, and fat cannot be trained into muscles, because fat and muscles are two completely different tissues in the human body. Fat is made up of adipocytes, while muscle is made up of myocytes. When you stop exercising for a period of time, your muscles will become loose and muscle tissue will begin to atrophy, but it will never turn into fat.

From the above explanation we can know that in fact when we stop exercising, muscles will not be converted into fat, but muscles will atrophy. Some people gain weight after stopping exercising because they lose exercise but their diet remains the same. In order to maintain a good figure and have a healthy and strong body, it is necessary to stick to some slow-paced aerobic exercise.
