Notes on practicing detox yoga

Yoga is a very beneficial exercise for physical and mental health. It is not only suitable for women, but men can also practice it. Moreover, yoga is not restricted by age, and there are particularly suitable movements for different age groups. Yoga is divided into many types due to its different effects, and detoxification yoga is one of them. Exercise can help expel toxins from the body and help beautify the skin. So, what are the precautions for detox yoga?

1. Practice on an empty stomach

It is advisable to keep an empty stomach 2 to 3 hours before practicing yoga. This can prevent the digestive system from robbing the brain and limbs of blood and nutrients, thereby weakening the effects of yoga postures on the body. It can also avoid discomfort to the stomach and internal organs caused by twisting and flexing of the body.

2. Breathe through your nose

The air is full of dust, viruses, and suspended particles. Breathing through the nose can block pollutants and make the inhaled air warm and moist, reducing irritation to the respiratory tract and keeping the inhaled air hygienic and clean. More importantly, yoga emphasizes breathing control. If you cannot use correct breathing, the effectiveness of the posture will be greatly reduced, hindering your learning progress.

3. Don’t compare yourself with others

Yoga is a sport that focuses on inner training, while parasailing is a competitive game. When practicing, one should not compete with other students. Otherwise, the fighting spirit will affect one's emotions and lead to a negative mentality of competition, pride, winning, and success-seeking, which will destroy one's concentration and motivation during practice. Beginners should compare themselves with themselves and use yesterday's performance as a criterion for evaluation. If they work hard every day, they will improve.

4. Do what you can

Each beginner has different flexibility, endurance and learning ability. When practicing yoga, you should do it according to your physical ability and follow the guidance of the instructor. Do not be too eager to win, overestimate your abilities, blindly imitate your instructor or students, and practice difficult yoga moves. This will only increase the chance of injury, cause frustration, and ultimately be counterproductive.

5. Sports safety

Generally speaking, yoga is suitable for people of all ages. However, patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, retinal detachment, head, neck and back injuries, pregnant women, seriously ill or postoperative patients should pay more attention to exercise safety. Because some yoga breathing and postures can put load or pressure on the body, causing injuries and physical discomfort. Therefore, students should consult their doctor before practicing and inform the instructor of their health status before class so that appropriate follow-up and guidance can be given.

6. Listen to your body

To fully experience the effects of yoga on the body and mind, you must first concentrate, listen carefully to the body, and feel how each movement and breath affects the body. During practice, if you experience abnormal severe pain, dizziness, or difficulty breathing, do not force yourself to complete the entire set of movements. Instead, stop practicing slowly, notify your instructor, and wait for appropriate instructions and assistance.

7. Bathing and skin care

After a yoga class, don't rush to take a bath immediately. Wait until your pulse is stable and your body temperature returns to normal, and then take a bath after a short rest. Especially after hot yoga, the pores will expand and the body will easily catch cold. When taking a bath, the water temperature should not be too hot or too cold to avoid irritating the skin, causing it to become dry and lose elasticity. After bathing, it is advisable to apply some moisturizer to keep the skin lubricated.

8. Drink plenty of water

Yoga postures help massage the abdominal organs, promote intestinal motility, aid digestion, and prevent constipation, abdominal bloating and other problems. It is advisable to drink an appropriate amount of boiled water half an hour after exercise, which helps intestinal peristalsis and speeds up the excretion of toxins from the body. At the same time, it replenishes electrolytes lost during sweating during exercise (especially hot yoga) and moisturizes the stomach, intestines and skin.

Whether you are practicing yoga or other sports, you won’t see results in just one or two days. Because of different methods and different personal physical conditions, the effects of exercise are also different. The most important thing is to persevere and never give up halfway. As long as you stick to it, sooner or later you will see the results you want and your body will be healthier.
