The rules of tennis

Tennis is a sport that many of our friends like. It is popular among tennis enthusiasts all over the world and has become a global sport. Many parents cultivate their children's habit of playing tennis from an early age. It not only exercises their children's bodies, but also allows their children to develop more healthily both physically and mentally while strengthening their bodies.

Many friends like tennis very much, but they are not very familiar with the rules of tennis. They think that it is just played back and forth. How to calculate the score, what is a foul, etc. All of these require us to study them seriously. After learning, let us make an appointment with friends after work to have a happy and healthy exercise together. Isn’t it a good choice? Let us now take a closer look at the specific rules of tennis.

Basic Rules

Contest

Tennis matches are divided into singles and doubles. Players use tennis rackets to hit the ball over the net and into the opponent's court. The goal of each player is to try his best to hit the ball into the opponent's court. This goes back and forth until one side hits the ball out of bounds or fails to receive the ball.

Serve

Before the official game, it is necessary to determine who will serve first. Throughout the game, players from both sides take turns serving. Before serving, the server should stand behind the end line, in the area between the midpoint and the imaginary extension of the sideline. The served ball should go over the net and land in the opponent's service area on the opposite corner. At the beginning of each game, the serve should be served from behind the right end line. After scoring or losing a point, the serve should be switched to the left zone. And so on. The serve is usually performed by throwing the ball into the air in any direction and hitting it with the racket before it hits the ground; however, an underarm serve can also be used.

Errors

If the ball lands outside the opponent's service area, such as the ball goes out of the line or touches the net, it is called a mistake and the server must serve again. Balls that land on the boundary count as within the line. If you make two mistakes in serving, it is called a "double fault", and your opponent wins a point. If the server's feet leave the original baseline when serving, it is also considered a fault. If the serve hits the net but the ball still lands in the opponent's serving area, it is a re-serve.

Bureau

The starting score of each game is 0:0, and the first point is recorded as 15. Therefore, if the server wins this point, the score becomes 15:0, and if the receiver wins this point, the score becomes 0:15 (the score before the colon is the server's score). The player's second point is 30, and the next is 40 (historically, these numbers represented 1/4 hours, i.e.: 15, 30, 45, but 45 was later changed to 40). If the opponent has only 30 or less points, then the next ball will win the game, because in each game, at least 2 more points than the opponent are needed to end the game.)

If both players reach 40, the game is called a tie. With the next point, the leading player will try to get 2 points ahead to win the game. At the same time, the opponent who is chasing closely also tries hard to equalize the score and reach "deuces at the end of the game". The player who is ahead wins the next point and wins the game.

plate

If the opponent is behind by at least two games, the player who wins six games first wins the set. However, if the score is 6:5, then both sides will have to play another game. If the player who takes the lead wins, the score of the game is 7:5, and the player who takes the lead wins the game. However, if another player levels the set at 6:6, the winner is determined by a tie-break.

Race

In a 3-set match, the winner is the one who wins 2 sets first, that is, 3 sets 2 wins; in a 5-set match, the winner is the one who wins 3 sets first, that is, 5 sets 3 wins. Decisive game (game 7): In the decisive game, the player who is supposed to serve serves the first point, the opponent serves the 2nd and 3rd points, and then both players take turns serving 2 points. The player who scores 7 points first wins the game if he is at least 2 points ahead of his opponent. The venue must be exchanged after every 6 points and at the end of the deciding game. However, there are exceptions. If the game is played in a long set according to prior agreement, There is no tiebreaker and the player can only win the game by winning two more games than the opponent. In the Atlanta competition, the Australian double five brothers fought their opponents to a high score of 18:16 in the semi-finals. In the end, the Shuangwu brothers won the gold medal.

Other rules

Any ball that lands on the line counts as in-bounds.

In addition to serves, balls that touch the net and that then land in the correct area of the court are valid.

When returning the ball, the player can hit the ball around the net and fixed objects, or even under the top of the net. As long as the ball finally lands in the appropriate place on the opponent's court, it is a good ball.

When serving, the opponent must hit the ball after it has landed once. When returning the ball at other times, it can be done after it has landed once or before it has landed.

After the odd-numbered rounds of each set, both players can take a short break and then switch courts to continue the game.

Points will be lost in the following situations:

1. The ball hits the body

2. Hit the ball over the net

3. Any part of the player's hand or body touches or passes over the net.

In fact, as long as we put our heart into it, we will quickly learn the rules of tennis. However, when playing tennis, friends should exercise appropriately and not give themselves too high an intensity at the beginning. Allow the body to have an adaptation process. Also, pay attention to safety and proceed step by step. Slowly, you will find that you can actually play tennis very well.
