Can I exercise if I have chickenpox?

Chickenpox is a viral infection that is highly contagious. Fortunately, there is now a chickenpox vaccine. As long as it is vaccinated on time, chickenpox can be prevented to a great extent. In fact, there is no need to worry too much if you have chickenpox, because it is not a very serious disease and it is not difficult to treat. So, can I exercise after having chickenpox?

Considering varicella zoster, it will generally recover in about ten days by taking anti-inflammatory and antiviral drugs. During the treatment process, it is recommended not to engage in heavy physical labor, and also not to take a bath or wash your hair.

Chickenpox is generally a primary infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. The patient is the only source of infection. The virus is transmitted through air droplets or direct contact with blister fluid. The disease is more common in children and adolescents, with an incubation period of 2 to 3 weeks. The onset is acute, with symptoms such as fever, headache, and general fatigue. The entire course of the disease is about one week. However, the course of chickenpox in adults is about 10 to 15 days.

The systemic treatment of this disease mainly focuses on strengthening care, preventing secondary infection and complications, and avoiding the use of corticosteroids. Since acne scars in adults recover slowly after illness, it is recommended to use calamine lotion 2 to 3 times a day from the time of illness to recovery, without taking a bath, and repeat the application.

The prevention of this disease mainly lies in isolating the patient until the scabs are dry. At the same time, patients should be sent to the hospital for regular treatment in time to avoid delaying the disease. Therefore, in collective institutions where children gather, such as kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, etc., attention should be paid to air circulation, and susceptible people who have come into contact with patients should be kept under observation for 3 weeks and treated symptomatically. For susceptible groups such as those with severe eczema, burns, and pregnant women, immunotherapy such as immunoglobulin or placental globulin can be used within 4 days of contact to reduce the risk of chickenpox.
