What is a tendon strain?

Tendon strain is quite harmful to health. It refers to an injury caused by excessive muscle or tendon activity. It often occurs when the body is over-tired, or when the body exercises excessively or at excessive intensity. The tendon area is most vulnerable at this time, such as the hamstring muscles at the back of the thigh, or the adductor muscles on the inside, etc. These are all prone to such injuries and require timely treatment and conditioning.

Tendon strain causes

Tendon strain may occur when the body is tired and the exercise intensity cannot bear. In general, tendon strains can be divided into the following causes:

External factors

The external factors that lead to tendon strain are mainly low temperature, high humidity, and hard ground.

Internal factors

1. Tendon strain may be caused by weak physique, low training level, poor muscle elasticity, extensibility and strength, fatigue or excessive load.

2. Tendon strain may also be caused by insufficient warm-up exercises. Participating in strenuous activities before the physiological functions of the muscles have reached the state required for strenuous activities.

3. Tendon strain can also be caused by poor sports technique, incorrect posture, uncoordinated movements, excessive force, and exceeding the range of muscle activity.

Therefore, remind friends to warm up before exercising and stretching.

Tendon strain prevention and treatment

1. Tendon sprain. Ligaments and tendons are called tendons in traditional Chinese medicine (commonly known as tendons). It is difficult for ligament tendon sprains or ruptures to repair themselves. If they are not treated, they are likely to be sprained again (habitual sprains are caused by repeated sprains of the joints, which lead to relaxation of the ligament tendons). After the ligament tendons are injured, if they are not healed, the joints cannot move normally, so it is easy to cause damage to other tissues.

2. For this type of soft tissue injury, it is recommended to choose professional treatment from traditional Chinese medicine; simply using some Western medicine to reduce swelling, relieve pain, and promote blood circulation cannot repair it; this method of treating the symptoms but not the root cause will only delay the treatment of the soft tissue.

3. The treatment of muscle and tendon injuries should be determined based on the severity of the injury and the function of the muscle and tendon on the limb. If it is a simple sprain, you should generally rest in bed, receive massage and physical therapy, take analgesics and muscle relaxants and blood circulation drugs orally when necessary, and do functional exercises, etc., and you will gradually recover.

In principle, non-surgical treatment is the main approach for partial muscle or tendon rupture. The affected limb is fixed in a relaxed position of the injured muscle using plaster or splints, and analgesics and swelling-reducing drugs are taken. Physical therapy and exercise are then performed after 3 weeks.

4. If the muscle or tendon is completely ruptured, early surgical repair and suture are required, and plaster fixation is used for 4 to 6 weeks, followed by massage, physical therapy, and active and passive exercises of joint function.
