Taekwondo Competition Rules

1. Leg Techniques:

When jumping and kicking, you should pay attention to aiming at the target. When jumping, the force should be directed diagonally upwards. You must pull your legs back when jumping. When you reach the highest point, push your legs and swing your legs at the highest point.

2. Foul matters

Fouls are an important factor in Taekwondo competitions. A mere 3-point penalty -- extremely rare in high-level competitions -- means automatic defeat. Only 1 penalty point determines the outcome of a match. There are two types of Taekwondo fouls: Kyong-go and gam-jeom. Common fouls are Kyong-go or warning, which means a 0.5-point penalty. If only one foul is committed, the penalty point is counted, unless a second foul is committed and a cumulative penalty of 1 point is imposed. Kyong-go is awarded if a player grabs, hugs, pushes an opponent, turns his back to an opponent evasively, or pretends to be injured.

Another more serious foul is called gam-jeom, which is penalized 1 point. Typical fouls include throwing the opponent, deliberately knocking the opponent down when his feet are off the ground, deliberately attacking the opponent's back, and punching the opponent in the face with your hands.

3. Notes

1. Salute: Stand straight with your feet parallel to each other, bend your upper body forward 30 degrees, bend your head forward 45 degrees, and bow. After the salute, return your upper body to the upright position. The standing, at ease, and sitting positions are different from those in normal physical education classes. You should ask the coach or senior students in the gym for advice on the standard posture in a timely manner.

2. Taekwondo etiquette at the beginning and end. When practicing Taekwondo, you should pay attention to your behavior. You should wear neat clothes when entering the gym or dojo. It is polite to make loud noises, chat and laugh in the gym. You should play with various tools and uniforms. There are mats in the gym, so you should wear shoes and step on them. You should salute the gym (national and dojo flags) at the entrance when entering and leaving the gym.
